Interesting lecture

Thursday Art History lecture covered the work of Paul Rand and compared it with Matisse.

Rand's mission was to introduce the art of the Paris school to the USA.

I found this connection really interesting.

I was not really familiar with this way that fine art concepts infiltrated the popular market in the 1950's till I saw this clear connection.

Artichoke drawing

Had a spare few minutes - whipped out the pencils and was pleased with the result.

Marquet drawing

Drawing from the NGV. It is an odd little painting anyway and looks peculiar in b&W, but it is quite true to the original.

Painting Class

Working on a new project - a book, a film still, a found object.

Starting an underpainting of a film still from Metropolis. Using monotones to start.
Am pleased with the perspective so far.

Time

Working on 'time' art work using ink gouache and watercolour.

Prepared images from Violet town

These images are derived from the Violet Town photos. I will use them in my assignment which requires demonstration of image transfer techniques

Camera Obscura

We went to see Outside In/Inside Out by Anna Bacic at Guilford Lane Gallery.
It is a room with a tiny pinhole of light which creates the camera obscura effect. The image is upside down - but (if you wait for your eyes to adjust) gives a quite clear view of the street outside.

Industrial subjects

Been meaning to update my entry on Cockatoo Island (july) with a reference to the work of Berndt and Hilla Becher. See link below.
