The old town of Alghero

Scenes from the old town of Alghero. While it is very touristy, people still live here and the 3 churches were well attended on the Sunday morning  when we were visiting.

above, the Sardinian flag... four moors' heads- noone seems to be able to be able to explain the significance

Alghero

Alghero was a walled city. In 1323 the Crown of
Aragon replaced the population with Catalan colonists. Today the old town within the walls is reminiscent of Barcelona. Apparently the local dialect has a strong Catalan influence. Noticed this when a local got on the bus and instead of saying boungiorno said bon dia.
Alghero now is a very, very popular place for tourists. It has a beach. The medieval old town teems with boutique shops selling coral, linen ceramics and all the other things you may want to buy while you are on holiday.
The views of and from the walls are spectacular. There are many many yachts here.
