Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization

A visit to this museum was a true highlight of the trip. The museum is in a renovated sous on the waterfront. It is vast and has an absolutely wonderful collection of items. A whole  section is devoted to inventions and scientific innovations. I loved the astrolabes - they meant that these people were great navigators. Beautiful globes were also on display. the working models were great!



There was a temporary exhibition which was a collaboration with the V&A showing how modern artists were being innovative and resourceful. These tiles below by Laurent Mareshal were in fact made of spices sprinked through stencils.
The aroma was divine.
