Kalyan Mosque, Bukhara

Kalyan Mosque was built in the very beginning of the 15th century. Since that time for several centuries it has been acting as the main mosque of Bukhara. It is a large complex and has 288 domes in the corridors around the central courtyard. There is a huge mulberry tree in the center of the courtyard. These trees are valuable for maintaining old buildings as their deep roots absorb the damaging salt in the water table. We were there for midday prayers, and there was a wonderful calmness in the air.
