Three colour collograph

This is the first assignment for Visual Arts Print Making Year 2 

I started by making three collograpgh plates from pasteboard and proofing them to see what I had.

Then came the decision about colours. Because the three plates are printed on top of each other the colour combination is delicate.

After several attempts I found that low contrast worked best. Here is the evolution.

The plates are around 20 x 25 cm - a bit less than A4.

The first three are the proof plates.

 

I wound up not using the last plate but introduced a fourth plate - stripes on the sides

Abstract Portrait

Exercise I did earlier this month where the person is not directly identified by a realistic representation of the face. Hence the abstract portrait.

I used charcoal which is easy to manipulate and change. It is A2 size.

 

Preston Cemetery

For 3 years I have driven past this cemetery and always intended to drop in.
I did last week - what a beautiful peaceful place it is. So many graves so well tended. Such affection and devotion.

Pouva Camera

The latest assignment for NMIT Visual Arts  involves using Diana cameras. These are primitive cameras that were manufactured in China The Diana first appeared during the early 1960s as a inexpensive box camera sold by the Great Wall Plastic Factory of Kowloon, Hong Kong.

Instead of the Diana, I borrowed the Puova Start which was created in Gemany in the 1950s. Like the Diana it takes 120 film which has to be processed at a lab. I found a friendly shop in Kew called PhotoQ - they scanned it as well and I am very pleased with the results.

No adjustments for distance - just sunny and shady! I took it to Moomba and finished the reel at home. They are similar to Diana camera images.

Painting - in progress

I have been working on this - around A2 size with an aim to familiarise myself with acrylic paints rather than oil. I have used a bit of impasto to get the texture of the sea.
