Jannis Kounellis Retrospective Venice (1)

Jannis Kounellis (1936 – 2017) was a Greek Italian contemporary artist based in Rome. He was a key figure associated with Arte Povera, and I have been attracted to his work for ages.
There is something very evocative about the way he presents works made from every day objects, or raw materials.
This 'survey' of over 70 of his works at the Prada Gallery in Venice was a great opportunity to see works from 1958 to 2016.

Up the stairs, little piles of red dirt on small suspended metal plates

Below, a 'painting' on a wall created by soot from flames on metal plates
