My first visit to the Melbourne Collage Meets group that was established by Anne Warren.
Over coffee in a Cafe we chatted and created. What fun!
The brief was 4cm x 4cm, and here are my tiny works.
It was a very enjoyable meetup, and I look forward to more interesting chats and sharing of ideas and techniques.
Her Community project The Pillow Quilt Petition aims to raise our awareness of the difficulties involved in recycling pillows. Well they generally aren't recycled.
Manufacturers such as Tontine have placed dates on their products suggesting that they have a limited life.
It goes like this.. " ... with normal use we suggest changing it by SEP 2022", encouraging people to throw away perfectly serviceable pillows which are not recyclable.
The art work is a patchwork quilt made up of pieces of pillowcases which have been used in community art workshops run by Annie.
Natural dyes and stitching have been used to create designs for the large quilt, and other small artworks that give at least some new life to the pillows.
And on the large quilt there are messages addressed to Tontine and IKEA calling for change.
I do admire artists who engage in community activities that encourage people to see the world differently.
My 3 works for Incognito Art Show have been on show and some sold.
The Incognito concept is to keep the identity of the artist concealed so that buyers do not acquire works based on the reputation of the artist. It is a kind of lucky dip.
So now I can reveal the works that I entered.

It is a great opportunity to meet local artists and be involved with this vibrant community centre.
I have dropped off 4 small works for the Winter show, which will take place on the 16th and 17th of August, with the opening night on Friday the 15th.
My 3 works for the Incognito Art Show are in the mail.
The works will be displayed both online and at a venue. All works are $100 and the name of the artist is not revealed until after the sales period is over. Hence the name... the artist remains "incognito".
Proceeds go to 2 organisations that support professional development for artists living with disability.
