Davide Balula

At Gagosian Gallery Rome. Beautiful wotk by French artist Davide Balula exploring natural materials. Visitors were invited to handle the heavy metal balls presented embedded in a marble table. Other works included charred wood which wad used to print on canvas.

Francesco Trombadori

Stumbled upon this retrospective of Francesco Trombadori (1886-1961) at the Rome Galleria d'Arte Moderna. It was interesting to see the works .... an added bonus was commentary  which included a potted history of modern art in Italy.

Church of San Luigi dei Francesci

One of the reasons for travelling.... to see magnificent works of art such as these three works depicting scenes from the life of St Matthew by Caravaggio in a church in Rome.

Brave New World Australia 1930s

A great exhibition at the NGV Federation Square. Australain art in the 1930s.
It is on until October 15.
An interesting range of painting, fashion, sculpture, film, dance and posters - samples of visual art in the 1930s in Australia.
Among my favourite painters, Clarice Beckett (below)

And a wonderful poster proclaiming Melbourne to be the seventh city of the empire, largely because of the skyscraper depicted in this poster. The Manchester Unity Building!

Katsushika Hokusai at the NGV

I went to see this wonderful exhibition today at the NGV.
It is very extensive and elegantky curated.
I only had an hour; enough to wonder at the exquisite workmanship and beauty of these woodcuts.
