Ravenna mosaics 1

Today a trip to a workshop called TAMO in Ravenna where mosaics are restored and the craft is taught.
I was particularly interested in the reproductions of the  mosaics from the church of S. Giovanni Evangelista. They depict scenes related to the Fourth Crusade1202-1204. I love the simplicity and urgency of the images.

A trip to the country in Calabria

To see  a chocolate factory!

In the classroom at Reggio Calabria

These photos which were on the the wall in the classroom.  For a month I looked at them while I struggled to think of an appropriate preposition or the right conjugation of a verb.
I wish the image on the left had been  centred, or the white space had been left at the bottom.

What makes Reggio Calabria unique

A month in Reggio Calabria in September.  It was hot, noisy and chaotic, and thoroughly enjoyable because of it.

Fish given to us by our neighbour after he had been fishing at Scilla nearby
A poster of a writer declaring pride in his Calabria
Big fat delicious cannoli as part of the festival.
View from our balcony. Hundreds of people carrying the image of the Virgin, thousands following.
And below, dancing the tarantella in the streets. Hot sweaty and compelling.
