Mortimer Menpes

Mortimer Menpes was a new name for me - a South Australian artist who lived in London and was friend with Rossetti, Wilde and co.
A master of the portrait and fine etching and drypoint which had a photographic quality.

The two prints below show the difference between the first state and the second state of an etching. The print blow right is the result of more work being done on the plate - the earlier version is on the left.
