The Sharjah Biennale

We set off to the Sharjah Art Museum where we saw our first taste of the Biennale. The reason we are here.
The event is spread over several locations.
First stunning work was  by Rayanne Tabet at the Sharjah Art Museum

below is work by Mark Bradford at a building called Bait Obaid al Shamsi

Sharjah ... The old town

The traffic may be gridlocked but there were few people on the streets as we wandered about. So these kids were playing ball with the outfielders positioned on the road.

Shops in the old town. And the last picture is of the place where we had a huge delicious dinner of chicken in coriander and rice. And pomegranate juice. Sharjah is a dry country in all senses of the word.

Sharjah first impressions

Arrived in Sharjah via Dubai today. Sharjah is a small emirate in the United Arab Emirates. It has a cultural centre that I want to explore. Started by wandering in the old part of town. The Islamic Museum was established in 2008... The old market  on the seafront was renovated so it is vast. Around the corner some men were finishing off painting some window frames.

APM website demolition

Autumn light in Melbourne is magic. The old Australian Paper Mill site is being demolished.  There is something quite static about the site at present - no sign of anyone.
